I always like to say the good intentions don’t pay for roads.
You actually have to get your crew together, get the equipment, ready, put the project together and get out there and do the work actually produce the road.
And the same is true for our businesses.
The reason that my analogy of course is because I come from an asphalt construction family, multiple generations, but it’s true in so many things. Our businesses are no different.
I realized my clients needed a litmus test to help them execute effectively. This is designed to not just design the execution plan but also make it as seamless and easy as possible. We execute on what we will actually do and stick to .
The litmus test helps us make sure that after we’ve identified the opportunity to grow their business and developed a strategy, the leverage that to the best potential.
How are we going to actually roll it out?
How are we going to implement it and execute it in our business?
Here we go:
- Is it relevant to the opportunity in the strategy that we’ve already identified? It’s easy to get off track and fall back to the things that we’re comfortable with. Even if they aren’t the things we should be pursuing.
- Can you measure progress? We have to make sure we’re measuring the right metric. That’s going to get us the result that we’re looking for.
- Can you communicate it effectively? BOTH inside of your team or externally if it impacts sales and marketing, but first off internally, we have to make sure that our people buy-in, know what’s going on and why it’s important. So we have to stop and communicate that to the team.
- Is it process or system oriented? I’m a firm believer that creating systems, processes and automations in our businesses is what increases the value over the longterm besides increasing that profit margin and creating strategies to leverage opportunities. I always make sure that my clients have a process that is documented and organized in a fashion that they can cross train and re-train on. Always take the time to build it into a process when you’re getting started and executing in your business.
